i have just recently rebuilt my 305 engine in my camaro and was trying to decide whether or not to bore it out. just wondering what some of you guys thought about the performance improvement of doing this was and if there were any downsides to it.

Honestly, you do not gain a lot of displacement or performance by simply boring. IMHO, I would only bore for new cylinder walls on a rebuild. If you want more displacement and power, a stroker kit is the most practical approach. Yeah, there would certainly be a down fall to boring if you bored too much.

A greater rocker ratio, good flowing heads w/ good valve hardware, headers if you have manifolds, etc. would make a good difference. If it's not TPI/Fuel Injection, sometimes finding the right lower intake manifold can take a few trials and errors.
