Does anyone know if the rearends in the 1500 suburbans 2001 & 2002 are the smame rearends in the Duramax 2500 silverados of those same years, the  4.10,3.73, & 3.43

The rear-ends are not the same, but the gear ratio's are similar.
All Duramax equipped Silverado's have 3.73's while the ratios that you mention above were all availalbe in the 1500 Suburban's.

Thanks for your help, do you know....
Our '02 suburban has a 3.73 according to the window sticker that shows all of the options/upgrades.Not sure about our '01 Suburban.
Would that 3.73 in the '02Suburban  be the same as the 3.73 in the duramax of '02?? I am asking because If/ when this gas engine dies. I would like to drop in the duramax & allison tranny.
Does any one know if the rearends were locking differential back then?
