hi, my neighbor has a 82-83 camaro w/ s.b. 350. he claims he's got 400 h.p. to the pavement............i know there are lots of variables, but how much horse power would a small block with no head work/ .030 pistons/ gear drive timing/ edelbroke intake&crb. w headers, auto trans. have to make to to put 400 hp to the ground? i was unable to get him to share his dyno info. w/me, if he even dyno'ed it. i've got a 79 z-28 w/bb th400 12bolt possi and i'm dying to get it back on the road i offered him a heads-up at the old seattle international raceway 1/4 mile. mine is pushing close to or more than 400hp. if i win, he gets to pick up his dogs poop in my yard, if i loose i continue picking up his dogs poop in my yard. but i would like to razz him a little until then. doesn't every componet on the way to the pavement eat up horse powers? i would love to tell him he would need about 500-550hp to put 400hp to the pavement, but i don't want to sound like him......an idiot. i'm just looking for a fair questimation. thank you, Jon

he would need atleast 550 flywheel hp. to get 400 to the ground because it has to go from the motor through the tranny driveshaft and rearend befor geting to the ground. with his motor he might get 400 at the flywheel but that would meen hes only geting 300 at the ground.
