you can diconect the battery for 1 or 2 mins then hook it back up that should clear it up.

You most likely will have to fix the fault that caused the light to come on in the first place. Have someone pull the code for you and procede from there.

you will not be able to clear you code by disconnecting your battery only in pre 1995 vehicles

You can reset the computer by taking power from it. I do it in my 96 after I fix it. If you have not found out why the light is on take it to Auto-Zone or Advance Auto Parts. They will check it for free. And they can reset it, but if you have not fixed whatever set it it will come back on. If you disconnect the battery or pull the fuse/fuses for the computer (you won't lose radio presets) leave it off for about 5 min. It only has to be 1 or 2 but if you leave it off a little longer will know it is reset.
On 95 and older they reset when you fix the problem and the light will go off, thus they do not need to be reset.

Actually Advance Autoparts/Autozone isn't supposed to reset the lights. But if you ask nicely most of the time they will but company policy says not to. I always did though.

If you pull the light bulb you don't fix anything, and can end up spending more money to fix futher problems caused by the first one. If you have not fixed what set it off, get it checked fix it then get it reset.
