Hey guys, new to the board and seeking help with my 05 TB V6 LS... Truck has 47 k miles and lately I have come across a few problems.
Number one, while accelerating the transmission sometimes feels like its skipping when reaching approx 30mph and 40mph. I.e. you can definitely feel the shifting of gears when it reaches those speeds. The engine also makes a subtle whining noise as if it was hauling a somewhat heavy load ( It's only hauling my fat ass, haha ). I got a trans flush about 8,000 miles ago and the problem settled until now.
Number two, my gas gauge is completely screwed. It will usually remain on empty even after topping off. On certain random occasions, the gauge may read a quarter of a tank full, but never more. I had it checked out and the mechanic advised that the problem was not a sensor but the fuel sending unit. No problem, until I found out that starting in 05, Chevy made some sort of combination fuel sending unit ( which I didn't really understand ) and anyway costs $370 plus labor.
I know there's something wrong with it but I've put myself into mechanical repair denial in fear of the hefty costs I will accrue fixing this. Before the problem gets worse or I pay for unnecessary repairs does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks, I appreciate the help in advance

My transmission mechanic is firmly in favor of changing filter and fluid regularly, but just as firmly against flushing. He says he has seen too many of them develop problems after flushing.

As to the fuel gauge, yes, the unit is a "component" now with the float, sensor, and fuel pump all built and sold together. It started way before 2005. Once you pull one out of the tank, you can separate the components, but you only buy one new as a unit from a dealership or a major parts store. You can probably find one at a salvage yard for $100 or so, rather than $370. I don't know what your mechanic has quoted you for labor. I got one swapped for $100.
