and i mean really clattery noisy at start-up, not as bad after warming up. not too bad cruising on hwy. pretty nasty driving around town in stop & go conditions. 140K miles. '99 suburban diesel. 20 mpg @ 65 70 hwy driving. any constructive suggestions on how to quiet the beast down, short of major engine work ?

nah some 6.5 had some bad issues, if its bottome end knock get it looked at, if its just diesel clatter...then ya they are lound

Would "bottom end knock" quiet down when the motor warms up or would it get worse as the RPM's went up?
