I am having trouble starting my car sometimes. It is a 1997 malibu. Sometimes when i go to start it as soon as it sounds like it is going to start it dies, almost like its not getting gas or somthing. When that happens i can usually just wait about a half hour or so and it will fire right up no problem. Most of the time this happens i notice that the "theft system" light comes on. I have no idea what the problem is. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks for the help.

Someone said to check my distributer or my distributer cap, what would happen if the cap was cracked or faulty?

I have seen this in several GM vehicles with the factory anti-theft systems. Usually when this happens there is a short in one of the wires that is attached to the starter. I will say that if you take this to a shop or the dealership, it will cost a lot of money for them to trace all of the wires to find the problem. My personal recommdation would be to take it to a shop and have them remove the system completely. Based off of your original post, you don't use it anyway and this will prevent this from happening in the future. Please let me know if this helps.

Yeah i have wondered if they could just remove the theft system completely. I am afraid at what that would cost, it sounds expensive. I guess I will have to make a few phone calls around and get some prices, and see if thats what they think the problem is too. Thanks for the reply.
