I have a 92 cav there is a problem  with the clutch i hope cuz when i push the clutch somtimes imt wont let me go into first or reverse. can any body tell me what they think the problem would be

Also when im driving in third and holding it at a steady paace it will surge and the check engine light will come on is there any body that can help me with that one also

Well, for the first one... if the clutch is low on fluid, it won't engage or disengage easily.. Check that first. Could be lots of other things too, synchros could be worn out... that's expensive to fix. Could be a bent fork on your shifter too... tho I don't think that's as bad a problem with the older Getrag transmissions as it was with the 95-99 Isuzu-designed-but-GM-built(-cheaply) ones..

Surging could be as simple as a cracked vacuum line. Does this ONLY happen in third? Or any other gear at the same throttle position? Any unsteadly idle when stopped?
