Hi, I have a 95 K1500 5.7L pickup with the 4L60E trans. It just started grinding horribly bad whenever I accelerate at anything faster than a crawl. A shop told me the planetary gear in the trans is trying to die and they recommended a Jasper remanufactured. Has anyone used these trans, is this the way to go? The shop I use is very good, and said thats all they use now, no problems in the last 5 years. The truck also has 151,000 miles on it, how much longer do these engines usually last? I don't want to drop $1800 on a trans to have the engine blow in 10k. I do all the recommended maintenance on the truck at the correct intervals.

i had a 1994 chevy k1500 with the 5.7, i ran the motor to 260000 miles so if you take care of them and dont beat on them tey do uselly will last, and yes the jasper tranny is well worth it, if you are doing any pulling, or if you do beat on your truck it could save you motor, by not making it work so hard

Mine made the same noise and it finally blew right after i switch from a 4.3 to a 350. go to www.eatmyshift.com they have great rebuilt transmissions at a cheaper price. i just ordered one. they are cheaper then your local repair shop. and they are built better. if you have a 700r4 tanny it will run you about $900 for a remanufacterd transmission.

$1800 seems high, but I don't know where you are located and local labor rates may have a bearing. I'm in Oklahoma, and I would expect to pay around $1200 at a typical shop around here for a rebuilt transmission installed. It may be cheaper to find someone who knows transmissions who will rebuild yours. I had a torque converter go out and I had that replaced and the clutches and bands replaced while it they were working on it for about $800. That's a deal from a transmission mechanic who is a friend, but it will give you an idea of how much is labor and how much is parts. Might check with some other shops to see if you can get a better deal. Mine was also a 4L60E in a suburban.

$1200 is more like it. My 95 has over 230K on it and I drive it to work (53 miles) everyday. My tranny acts up when I back up on a grade. Other then that, no problem. I would have no problem with replaceing my trans. My truck runs to good to retire. don't smoke, don't miss, runns like a new one.
