Im new to the forum & chevys and have some questions

Im looking to get a cavalier no earlier then 1999. What are some common problems that come with these cars? Any specific things that I should look at before buying one? (For example, dont buy a 93 passat with a auto tranny). Thanks in advanced

I own a 2002 cavalier and since day one its been a pretty darn good car. the only thing that i would complain about is that it has a Gov. Chip (in other words) its Speed limited. Also get you a 5 speed rather then a automatic. ive driven a automatic cavy and believe me when i tell you, they are slow. I own a 5 speed and well it sure can take off.

Other then that i dont know. Hope i helped

Be very cautious about WHICH Cavalier you buy. The quality is inconsistent. One Cavalier may run forever but another Cavalier may be in the dealer's shop every week for warranty repairs. Basically GM just pooped out Cavaliers at warp speed to keep up with demand, and quality control took a backseat to quantity. I like the final generation Cavalier, because it has the 2.2L EcoTech engine, which is a DOHC four banger with plenty of mid range torque that is used in every GM econobox these days. 2003-2005 model years only. And yes, get the manual gearbox, it's way better than an automatic, unless you live in bumper to bumper traffic all your life. That is true with any car that has a miniscule amount of power.
