In am looking at the Vortech Max 2WD as I tow my older Chevys from time to time to swap meets, etc. What kind of fuel mileage are any of you getting. I don`t expect to get 20 mpg but 17-18 would be good. Most of my driving is hwy. and I don`t tow but maybe 1-2 times per month. Thanks

I've only got a little over 300 miles on it so don't really know what it's going to do.  But so far the computer says 14.8.  We live in a rural area and have not made any road trips, and have done very little city driving.  My 2003  5.3 averaged 15.2 with the same kind of driving.  So not much differance and it is not broken in.  It has a lot more power and I can feel it.

I have a 2000 Suburban 5.3 and I get 16-17 avg. and on long trips  it gets 19-20, I have had a few tanks that got 21. I write down every tank of gas that goes in the truck. I use Syn. oil, K&N air filter and have a Throtle spacer.

Hello,

I drive a 2007 Silverado 2500HD CrewCab 4X4 (new style) 6.0L. I average between 11-12 mpg to work everyday which is mainly city driving with little highway. Also took our first trip towing our fifth wheel 7800#, went over 3 mtn. passes before reaching our destination and had an average of 8 mpg.

I am now leaning more toward the 5.3 as I believe that with the towing package it will pull O.K. Also I have to consider Gas mileage which is better with the 5.3. I do not pull on average more than twice a month, and my cars avg. about 3200-3600 lbs. There is also only small hills around this area also. Most of my pulling would be to Dallas - Houston , about 250-350 one way.My previous puller is a 91 GMC w/350 so there is plenty of up side in any choice.

I think you know best what you want.  Just tie it up with the right gear ratio for the wieght your pulling.
I had a 5.3 and was very happy with it.  I now have a 6.0 and like it even more.  I haven't seen any difference in gas mileage, but there is a lot of difference in power.  Although it sounds like a lot bigger engine if you look at cubic inches the 5.3 is 323cubic inches  the 5.7 is 348 cubic inches and 6.0 is 366 cubic inches.  I like the varibable valve timing.  Lots of low end torque.
