I have a '98 Cavalier.  A while back the check engine light came on.  Went to Advance Auto and they came up with code P0480, cooling fan 1, control circuit.  He found that a fuse was blown, I replaced it.  After driving a while the check engine light went off.   I was thrilled, but only for about 2 minutes.  The check engine light came back on.  I checked the fuse and it was blown again.   Where do I go from here?  There seems to be no problem.  The car runs great and there is no problem with the cooling system as far as I can tell.  It doesn't overheat.  The fan comes on when it should.  Thanks in advance for your help.

There's a reason for the fuse to blow .... probably the fan is drawing too much current.

Thanks.  What would I do to correct that?  Replace the fan?  Could it be a bad relay or something like that?

The first thing would be to check the wiring to see if there is any cuts which may cause shorting. Then check the connectors for corrosion since this will contribute to high current draw as well. If these all check out fine then replacing the relay would be cheaper than the fan to start off. If all that still causes the same problem ... then likely it's the fan itself.
