have you checked the strainer screen on the pump itself? The zone will put a scanner on it for free and this should tell you if it is a sensor.

I have a '00 2500 and have gone through 3 fuel pumps. I finally got the lowdown from the mechanic and he said that Chevy doesn't want to admit it or do a recall, but the pump that they put in on the '00 model was a bad choice. He said that Chevy's with that model of pump have been in and out of the shops constantly (I don't know what the model was on the pump). I finally had them install an aftermarket pump and haven't had any issues since. 2 times it went gradually. When it gradually went out, some of the signs were hard to start or would die at a stoplight.
