This is not an urgent problem, but definitely an annoying one in the winter! The fan control switch only works on 4-5-6, and none of the lower speeds. Could this be just the blower motor resistor or the whole control unit itself? Our repair manual is vague on where this resistor is located or how to change it...any help would be appreciated!!!

Likely the resistors.

I had 3 Malibu's all late models with the same problem. All took new resistors to make operations 100% again
Parts are cheap but where they are located is probably in the evaporater housing as most cars are with A/C. If you have no A/C its on your heater core housing I would imagine. A dealer will give you a better idea
