About a year ago I had the front hubs replaced on my 97 Malibu 2.4L. Since the ABS light comes on and stays on. The shop said the sensor is probably bad. Well that turned into a fight as it was working till they laid their destructive paws on my car. Would you believe I had to take it back six times to fix one other thing they kept messing up? Jeeze! Not that I like to bash any one company but never go to this place. Rhymes with "itis".

Anyway, I understand the ABS sensor is located in the hub. I have been told the connecting wire can become frayed or not connected properly causing the ABS light to come on. I did a 30mph panic stop on the few occasions the light went out. I felt the peddle pulse as I came to a stop but I'm not sure what to feel.

So where exactly do I look for this connection? What would I check for? It there a way to test it with an OHM meter to make sure it's getting juice?

Thanks!

The connector can get corrosion in it causing the ABS light to light.

They're called wheel speed sensors.  They put out AC current.  If they don't have an output, your abs won't work right.

Ok, fixed the issue. My son and I turned the wheels so we could get at the connector from the hub. We disconnected them and after checking for corroded or broken connectors/wires, we reseated them with some die-electric grease around the outside seal . The ABS light went out and has not returned! Man! Talk about skating on this one! Replacing the hubs would have been pricey. Although, I have heard these hubs tend to warp and cause premature brake failure. Is there a slotted hub for this model Malibu? 97?

Good thing about the connector fixing the problem.

As for the hubs warping ... I'm thinking you probably mean the rotors.
I don't know about slotted ones , it doesn't matter just get premium quality ones not economy priced ones.

Right. Rotors. Anyway, I had read on another forum that the standard OEM rotors warp and the pads wear unevenly. Design flaw? Someone had mentioned something about using a high performance rotor that was slotted and had holes inn the plates. It helped keep it cool and not warp.

Anyone hear about this or can at least offer some advice?

Thanks!

Skrappi ... it's your money .

I replaced my 99 Malibu rotors four years ago with premium aftermarket solid ones ... haven't had a problem since.

My ABS light in my '99 malibu has been going on intermittently for the past 5 years but I have never been able to fix it. Took it to the mechanic maybe 5x over the 5 years for that, but they always clean the sensor and I think its fixed but it ends up coming back on.

By the way, I just bought some solid rotors for $35 each. No holes. However a stuck caliper mounting bolt prevented me from putting them on last weekend.
