I just went into the local Jiffy Lube to get my oil changed at 3000 miles.

They said they do not have yet the right oil filter and canot do it.

Anybody knows which is the right oil filter and how do you reset the oil % life counter that reports back to the On Star?

Also, when should I move to synthetic? Is 3K miles OK or should I wait for 5K?

Thanks.

I bought my filter from the dealer. I forget the part number. Its in your owners manual. I changed at 4000 and went with mobil 1. To reset the oil life, while on oil life display hold down the check mark button(bottom button) for a few seconds untill it resets.

I agree with P_RsTahoe.  I only use OEM filters anyway.

I far as I know, only the dealer is carrying the AC PF-48 oil filter.

I did a quick check and found the following equivalents for the PF-48

Wix: 57060
Fram: PH10060
NAPA: 7060

Thanks - great info.

I see no reason to use an OEM filter and/or to pay Chevrolet to do simple oil changes.

There is a very definite trend with the 07', where they made it very complicated to work with independent shops and designed parts to be proprietary, not off the shelf.

Just this new found attitude in itself justifies tossing their vehicle in my view...

There is very good reason to use OEM filters. I used to use fram in previous vehicles and found that they were not holding the pressure. I was getting alot of dry starts. I have heard this from different people as well. Nothing but OEM for me from now on.

So is this the consensus? OEM parts?
i mean how much are we talking price wise between Jiffy lube and the Dealer?

Assuming that GM sources their filters from one of the 2 or 3 large manufacturers. All we need really to figure out is where their filters come from and buy the same.

I was told to not switch to synthetic until the second oil change. Don't know why but I followed it.
