2003 Avalanche. We recently had a blizzard around here. So I know the undercarriage has been dragging through a lot of snow. Speedometer works properly when the truck is cold. After driving for a bit, it drops down. Says I am going 20 mph when I am really going at least 45. When I stop, it drops below zero instead of the needle pointing right at 0. If I shut it off and let it sit for a minute, when I restart it it works again until it warms up. Have I got some kind of moisture condition caused by the snow?

I too had the exact same thing happen to my 03 Avalanche-and it has nothing to do with blizzards(we don't have them). My boyfriend said 03 Tahoes have a recall for that-and I'm hoping Avalanche does too-so they will reimburse(it's not cheap to fix).

I have heard that dealers will do the recall regardless of the mileage, due
to safety issues.

Good Luck

As the Owner of a 2004 model year Chevrolet Silverado your satisfaction with
our product is very important to us.

This letter is intended to make you aware that your vehicle could develop a
condition where one or more of the instrument panel gauge needles may stick,
flutter, or become inoperative This may cause inaccurate readings, including
the speedometer and the fuel gauge.

Do not take our vehicle to our GM dealer as a result of this letter unless
you believe that your vechile has this condition.

What We Have Done: General Motors is providing owners with a special
coverage that extends the warranty on the instrument panel cluster for the
condition described above. If this condition occurs on your 2004 model year
Chevrolet Silverado within 7 years of the date your vehicle was originally
placed in service or 70,000 miles, whichever occurs first, the condition
will be repaired for you at no charge.
