I am looking into buying a newer (2001 or newer) Silverado..I have figured out how to decode the VIN enough to find 4x4, 1500/2500/3500, and cab style..Are there numbers/letters in the VIN that tell you what kind of trim the truck has, the engine, and the box length, tranny type?? I have searched all around, only one that came close was CarFax, but I don't really need that..Any help would be appriciated

Most Dealers have the ability to run a Vehicle Build sheet that shows what it came from the factory with as well as the dealer service records. Ask at your local parts or service counter. Keep your requests to a min. as they were a little annoid with me when I walked in with 15 vins. to run. It sure saves time and you know what you are looking at before you show up to look at a used car. Does anyone know what site the dealers are accessing and if it is a subscription service?
