I have a 92 Safari that has 300k. It has been a good work van, I know that it is not a Astro (although I owned a 87 before). I could not find a forum site dedicated to just GMC's. I figured that there is not much difference between the two? Anyways I wanted to know if there is a easy way to determine if the switch is bad on the steering column? I checked the fuse and it is good. I don't how to locate the wiper motor, everything is real tight up in there and it is hard to see? I thought the switch was the most likely problem because of the age and mileage. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Ol' Ranger

I had a similar problem with my 95 Astro. It was really easy to fix. My wiper motor is located visible just below the windscreen in the engine compartment. I tried to tap the wiper motor with the backside of a screwdriver and it started running. Obviously there was some kind of bad connection. The next step was to remove the lid for the gear housing of the motor. Underneath the lid there was a pc-board with some electronic components as well as stop position tracks and connectors. One of the tabs for the connector had a bad soldering to the pc-board. Resoldering of this tab fixed the problem. Hope this could be of any help. Other sources of problems may be brushes worn out or corroded connectors. Kjell
