Has anybody been successful using a gear drive timing set with efi (and its knock sensors)? I got my hands on a Summers Brothers timing set from an oval track guy but have been told not to have it installed.

I've seen this warning with most gear drive sets. I think the noise created by the teeth meshing triggers the knock sensor which retards the timing which kills power.

With efi, you need the Pete Jackson gear drive. I read online that it doesn't cause retarding timing from the knock sensor with GM Ram Jet, Accel TPI (Street Ram or Super Ram), Holley Stealth Ram, Edelbrock Pro-Flo, or TPW/MoTec. Didin't see anything about Hilborn / Carabine or the ASM setup. Maybe you can sell the more expensive Summers Brothers unit to an old-school carb guy.
