jetracer21 -> disk brake conversion questions (1/6/2007 10:39:59 AM)

I have a 99 k2500 4x4 with stock rear setup, 14 bolt ff with 410's, i pull two trailers one is about 12000lbs and the other about 8000lbs. I want to convert to rear disc. What is the best route here? Buy a kit? or buy a jy rearend from a 2000+? What else is involved? proportioning valve, master cylinder, anti-lock?    Any and all suggestions and links welcomed and appreciated. Thanks  [:)]

I have the same rig, but 3.73's.  (just got a wait4meperformance.com tune, power is brutal now!)

Can you adapt the rear disc from the C3500 dually?  Same bolt pattern, but not sure if the axle is the same or not.  It might be the Dana rear.

Might be worth looking into.  Let me know, I might do it as well, but I don't do towing, just would love better brakes.  At least ours isn't as lame as the K1500 brakes....  I sold my 96 K1500 Burb over that...

I  will check on the C3500 dually disc. I dont know if a jy will sell me just the brakes off the axle.  I want to see if a stock rear from a 2000+ K2500 will bolt in? I think i could find one fairly cheap in a jy.I also thought about using a adjustable proportioning valve. I could run normal settings for city driving and a more aggresive 50-50 setting for towing heavy loads down the interstate. I'll try to find some more info by mid week. I also found this link to a conversion kit for a ff 14 bolt rear at 4wheel magazine at .......www.fourwheel.com/techarticles/suspension/1290504dilreardiscbrakeconversion/   I have only found one conversion kit so far and it was kinda expensive at about 2000.00 !! Let me know if you find any info or if anybody else has any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
