HHR does not have the traditional Oil filter, the oil filter is within a housing in front of engine slightly to the right on the driver side. The screw on/off Hex(32mm) black plastic cap is visible as you peep down facing the engine. The filter fits down into the housing.

It is off center to the right side. It is in a canister, which is black and has a large hex head on top for filter removal. I hope that this helps. Joe oop's like they said in post #2

You will also have to remove the engine cover inorder to see it. Pretty self explainatory but remove the oil cap and pull on the cover and it should pop off. Some are on there pretty tight though. Also if you don't have a 32mm a 1 1/4'' will also work. You'll also need a good sized extension to reach. Also I have heard that if you don't change the filter first then you actually leave a 1/2 a quart of dirty oil in the motor. But that is just what I have heard not sure if it's actually true.

I know this is an old post, but... wanted to be sure to bring to everyone's attention that the advice that a 1 1/4" socket will work instead of 32mm was right on! At the closest parts store they were out of the 32mm size but had 1 1/4" so I took a chance and it worked just great.
