03CHEVSS -> Key FOB question (12/3/2006 9:38:16 AM)

Hi Folks,
New here and have a question. I purchased a new to me 03 Chev. SS pickup the other day and it didn't have any key fob's. I didn't know that tell the deal was done and to say I was alittle PO'ed. What can I do to get some. Can the the dealer get some and program them or am I going to have to go aftermarket. Thanks

You can pick up FOBS on e-bay fairly cheap if you shop around. Once you have a set, or more, take it to the dealer to have them programmed to your vehicle. If you had an old one I believe you could have matched the new one up. Since you don't have any, you will have to visit the dealer to the get up to speed. If you purchased your Silvy at a dealer I would push to get this done for free.

Good luck: quote from your manual...

Matching Transmitter@) to Your
Vehicle
Each remote keyless entry transmitter is coded to
prevent another transmitter from unlocking your vehicle.
If a transmitter is lost or stolen, a replacement can
be purchased through your dealer. Remember to bring
any remaining transmitters with you when you go to
your dealer. When the dealer matches the replacement
transmitter to your vehicle, any remaining transmitters
must also be matched. Once your dealer has coded the
new transmitter, the lost transmitter will not unlock
your vehicle. Each vehicle can have a maximum of four
transmitters matched to it.

Key fobs on EBay are cheap usually because they are used, especially if their around $30 - $35. Do yourself a favor since you prolly have a nice truck with it being an SS and all and spend a little more money on an aftermarket alarm. Trust me, these trucks are very easy to break into, just read my previos post. I installed a Viper alarm and love it, it has a 2 way pager and tells me exactly what is going on, plus I can start it from 1/4 mile. You can spend anywhere from $150 to $300 on a remote starter alarm or even less if you don't want those options, but trust me, it's worth it!
