Please Help,
I have a 1990 Lumina sedan with 80K. When it is cold (has not run for servral hours) it will start up and run very well, it will cut out and immedatly come back on (buck) only when you accelerate hard, really step on it. It will cruise down the highway easy 65 to 80 mph. Standard acceleration, it goes just fine, as expected. The problem is: After it gets hot (run for 30 min or more) if you shut it off and say run into a store for 10 to 20 min., when you come back to the car and try to start it it will not fire up. It will turn over, but it will not start. After 2 to 3 hours it will start and run fine.
Yesterday, I had the crankshaft sensor and the ignition modual repaced, based on the experience of my mechanic, I pick the car up today and drove it for about 30 min. got it home and waited about 20 min and same deal, would not start.
It is getting spark, because it will fire with starting fluid sprayed into the air intake but will die as soon as the fluid is gone. My guess is it is not getting fuel, but I can hear the fuel pump kick on when I turn the key.
Does anybody have a clue what could be the problem?
Just before I had the sensor and the ignition mod. replaced, I did have the fuel filter changed, could it be something with the fuel filter? the injectors? Pump? What??
It is a 1990, 17 model years old, I've dumped about $1500.00 into it over the past year, is it worth fixing or should I cut my losses and dump it?
