I am considering purchasing an '05 Suburban with the 8.1L Vortec. I tow a travel trailer. We currently have an '03 Tahoe 5.3L. It works that little motor HARD! Wondering what I can expect with the 8.1L. MPG, around town & towing? Any worth while hop ups to look at? Exhaust, chip, intake, etc? Any other thoughts or comments would help too!

Thanks for the help!!

holy crow jjc60631, ya beat me 2 the punch! i was gonna come on here tonight 2 post the same question. i just got back from the GM dealer & was looking @ getting an '06 2500 4x4 with the 8.1L in it. it's still on the lot, new, as an ordered truck that the customer cancelled @ the last minute. they say they're willing 2 cut a great deal on it since nobody wants the 8.1 that was ordered in it. lookin' @ buying it for towing my 32' enclosed trailer, but am wondering if the extra torque is worth the extra fuel it'll want 2 eat, or should i just opt 4 a 6.0L ? does anyone have some real world info?

I was thinking about the 6.0L as well. How does that compare against the 5.3L in my Tahoe? Additional feedback on the 6.0L would be appreciated as well!

Thanks, John

looks like i waited too log to decide on that 8.1L '06. i saw the truck was off the lot on Tuesday coming home from work. stopped in and found that the truck was bought on Monday morning. i guess the 'deal' the salesman told me was "too good to pass on" really was.
