Some manufacturers suggest a break in period. If the thing is going to have problems it will wether you do a break in or not. The most I have ever done on one of my motors is to drive a few easy miles then let her have it. I have not lost one yet. As far as the oil consumption if you lose a qt of oil every 2k you have issues. I have yet to have a vehicle new or used to consume oil.

Mine the last i checked now as a half a quart low at 3000 miles so not too bad.
