Do I have a stainless steel exhaust on my 99 Silverado? I need to do some work on it and that might make a difference on what I do!

You got a magnet? Stainless isn't magnetic. If it sticks to it, its not stainless.

I am a machinist. 17-4 S.S. is magnetic.

The reason I am asking is my 99 has 117k+ miles and the exhaust looks almost new!

explain how that stainless is magnetic? I never heard of such a thing. It must not be pure stainless or something?

I don't know. I work for a medical implant maker - 17-4 is used for instruments and is magnetic and 300 series we use for implants is not!

Mudweiserz71: I guess I don't need to weld to it with just my regular wire feed welder. I'll need to get a MIG attachment and use SS wire.
