Looking for some help. Can anyone recommend a good website/source for 4WD troubleshooting?
My 96 k1500, 5.7L, 4L60, 230C, won't engage 4WD. The 2H lite flashes then goes out. I've checked the fuses, tried to get diagnostics from grounding pin 13 and bench tested the front axle actuator.
I've read that the switch (in the dash) can be a common problem with these trucks. How can you check the switch w/o R&R it?
Has anyone else had to deal with this? How'd you end up fixing it?
Thanks, Mike. Puyallup Wa. mikenallisonbrazil@msn.com

I had the same problem w/ my 96, only had the floor shifter and not the push button. Could possibly be a bad control, but have been told that more often than not the actuator in the front axle is the culprit. Some forum replys have said that if the actuator works it is not the problem. NOT TRUE, mine still moved in and out, but was weak and not engaging the front axle. I had to replace it with a newer style "screw" style actuator, which required splicing a wire in at the transfer case. My dealer, who supplied the part was able to print me a diagram from the TSB and was able to do it myself. It is a bit time consuming and is in a tight area, but can be done. Hope this will help!
