Hey whats up everyone.  This is my first post here so, if this is
in the wrong forum, please mods could you move it to the proper
one.  Ok here is the deal I have a 1999 Chevy Prism, with 78000
miles as my daily driver. Well on Friday I went out to start my car,
but I couldnt get it to even attempt to turn over. Everytime I turned
the key all I would get is a whinning noise from the starter, so that
leads me believe that the starter has finally crapped the bed.  So
just to be sure it was the starter and not the battery or the
alternator, I tried to get a jump from the friend, but even with the
jump the only thing that happened is the lights on both cars dimmed and
my car still wouldnt turn over, it would just click.  Next I went
and bought a brand new battery and still the samething, a whinning from
the starter and nothing else. So I went under the car and removed the
starter. Now I dont want to have to pay a few hundred dollars for a
starter, so I was wondering if anyone on here knows where I can get a
kit to rebuild the starter or a cheap starter.  I know they used
to sell kits to repair/rebuild starters, but I called all the auto
parts stores around here and they dont even has a clue what I was
talking about.
