Hey, I'm looking into turbocharging a 400 small block.  I've got the bottom end built to handle a lot of boost.  I'm just having trouble finding a place with turbo kits for a carbureted v8.  Does anybody know where I can find one?

Turbocharging a carb engine is very tricky. Like NOS, You'll be supplying extra air to the engine. With a turbo, the amount of air goes up as the engine turns faster ( More RPM ) and needs a varied fuel mixture to run right. It's almost impossible to make the engine's fuel mix vary throughout the RPM range. A professional way to do it would be to run some type of injection in conjuction with the carb. With that said, I'd suggest using one or the simpler aftermarket fuel injection systems instead of the carb. Holley makes a nomber of affordable FI kits that would combine the best of both worlds. You'd have a carb style throttle body with electronic feul injection rails to supply the varied fuel needs of Your turbocharged engine. An alternate is a belt driven centrifugal supercharger which is the same as a turbo but it's belt driven not exhaust driven. thanks for listening.
