I have a 2000, extended cab, 4x4; I am trying to change my transmission filter and am running into a few problems.  The service manual says there is a drain plug for it, I've checked numerous times and have not found one.  Also my shift cable bracket is bolted to the pan.  It would not be a problem but the cable prevents me from getting to one of the bolts.  The manual does not give a good discription of how to take that cable off.  Has anyone delt with this or knows how to disconnect this cable?  Also any other helpful hints for this project will be greatly appreciated.

You can do it. You have to use a small wrench and turn it a quarter turn each time to get the bracket off. I did it on my 98. Do those first then drop the pan and dump the fluid...put a new filter on and your golden....took me about an hour to complete the entire thing! Good Luck!

a freind of mine has a gadjet with a long tube and a hand plunger (looks like a pump spayer ) puts the tube down the dipstic tube and sucks most of the trans fluid out of the pan and WOW less messy . it's nice to see people paying attention to their trans fluid ....my wife has a HHR it has NO dipstic and it takes dextron IV ..........wierd
