Window Tint?

I think the tint on the back windows of the tahoe is perfect. But i want the same thing done to the two front windows, If I take the windows to be tinted at a custom shop, do you think they would be able to perfectly match it? Or would I have to re-tint all of the windows to match?

Yes they can match the front side windows (which already have some tint). Check your state laws on how much is legal. The back window tint would not be allowed on the side windows in a lot of states. Most custom shops won't put illegal tint on around here.

20% matches the rear windows well ..if you look close at the writing on the rear wide windows, it actually says what the exact VLT is...i think its 21 or 22%

Remember that the front may have 70% on it already, so you won't get the same effect if you put 20% on top of that.

i dont think the fronts have anything on them (other than clear UV protection). I installed 20% and it matched the rears. Go check your fronts and see if they are labeled with a VLT rating.

ok, i'll check. I've already looked around on the window for a sticker or something before and I never saw a percentage or VLT rating. Also, for those of you who do have your front windows tinted, do the cops give you a hard time about it? I know that its one of those laws that usually isn't very enforced at all, but every once in a while you will get a cop who feels like giving you a hard time. But that is usually when there is a limo tint or something on the front windows.

I blacked all my windows down to 3%. I got pulled over last week on alligator alley by some rookie state trooper for the tint. The ticket was $71.50. I don't have to take the tint off. Just risk getting another ticket. I have had this same setup on all my cars for the last 10 years, this is my first ticket. I won't take off the tint. Looks too good with the black hoe.

Shark hit the nail on the head! The closest tint to get the fronts to match the rears at 16% would be to have 20% put on the fronts. Thus giving you 14% tint on the fronts and leaving the rears at factory 16%.

FYI - go to llumar.com and click on automotive section. There is a link there for the different state laws for tint.

I'm going to agree with the 20%... that's what i have and it is very close to the back. I haven't had any trouble with the cops yet. I have also gotten pulled over on Alligator Alley for tint on my old car and it wasn't even illegal at the time! I'm not planning any trips to the west coast of florida anytime soon... 20% is technically illegal

You put 15% on the front? Did you leave your rears factory 16%? If so your fronts are 10.5%.

So you guys put 15% on top of the 70% already on the front?
biglg

Your front is 70% factory, rear is 16%.
If you put 15 on front it would net 10.5%, 20% on front would net 14%.
If you put 15% on rear it would net 2.4%, if you put 20 on rear it would net 3.2%.
15% on fronts would make it almost 6% darker than factory rears. 20% is a closer match for the fronts to match the rear!

BgLg is right i just really looked at mine and the 15% on the front is a little bit darker than the stock back glass Just put 5% all the way around and be done with it

Dam,
Can you see out of that thing?
Is there anyone that put 20% or 35% over the factory rears? I would like to know their opinions and how dark it is, how hard it is to see out them!

LOL! Yeah, I can see just fine. You have to remember that on the inside it's still super bright with modern tint. I've also had my vehicles this way for the past 15 years so I'm used to it. It's nice though because no one can see inside your stuff, even with a mag light shining into it.

Yeah, I am scared to go that dark on the fronts! Legal limit in MO is 35%.
I can just imagine after a round of golf getting pulled over and getting in trouble for that one, only ONE victory beerz I had after the round,
