Im repairing a leaking seal in my transfer case. I was wondering what kind of fluid to use to fill it up with? I was told two different things... transmission fluid and 80/90 gear oil. Which one?

i was always told to put ATF in the transfer case, gear oil in the newer (mid to late '80's and up) tranfer cases and manual transmissions is to thick for the bearing clearances, and will not lubricate properly.

Your "Owners Manual" will list the part number to use. Some fluids are VERY specific to the application and I suggest you get your recommended lubricant at the local Chevy Dealer.

If it's a NVG-136 one speed auto than use the Auto-trak II but if it's the NVG-233 two speed selectable than use manual trans fluid part #88861800
