Has any other Uplander owner had the power sliding doors not close or open after closing.  I have called Chevy and opened a file.  I've had the Uplander in for service 4 times for the same problem and they cannot find the source of the problem.

The only time i have had problems with the sliding doors is when the doors are locked then the automatic door buttons are disabled. other than that i have had no problems. with the uplander (other than trying to find places to go so that i can drive it more)
what kind of brake problems butch?
I had 6,500 miles on my Uplander and the brakes felt like they were grabing, so I took it to my dealer and when I picked it up I found that they turned down ALL 4 ROTERS due to warping and I was very up set. I told the service writer that all the milage was highway miles and he said (and I can't believe he said this) "Well that's your problem, while your driving on the highway your brakes heat up and then when you get off on the exit ramp and hit your brakes thats what warped the roters". I told him that he didn't know what he was talking about, and then he said that their orders from GM are If a customer complains about their brakes grabing to turn them down. I called GM and opened up a file on the van and now I have a File number to refer to. If you need to open a file on you Uplander call 1.866.952.4368 and give them your report and they will give you a file number.

I'm having the problem that when I close the door on the passenger side with either the buttons or the remote if we go over a bump, the door adjar signal turns on and starts beeping. I can't tell if its a sensor problem or if the door really isn't latching properly and is jarring loose just enough to turn on the sensor. (The door looks closed and latched securely when the problem is happening). Any thoughts?

I am having the same problem! Today I had to drive for 10 minutes with the alarm sounding. I thought I would lose my mind. When we stoped to try and open and close the door we could not get it to close, finally after about 10 tries it finally closed. The dealer tried a few things but nothing has worked so far. They ordered a new locking mechanism. I hope that works!

I have the '05 uplander lt awd. We have experienced the same door issues as well as other quality issues. It has been in the shop for doors 5 times including today. Trip four gm instructed the dealer to replace contactors in the doors. Issue still not resolved.
Beginning to think this is an american piece of junk.

I have that exact same problem!! It started in July 2006 when I opened the door to take out my son and then it wouldnt shut. Then the dinging started. We also have a constnant grinding noise coming from that side of the car. I have taken my Uplander in, I think, 5 times. Tomarrow is the 6th to fix the problem. They started with the locking mechanism, not fixed. Then the fuse, not fixed. Then the motor, not fixed. Oh, and my husband unplugged it cause I couldnt drive it 30 minutes to the dealer with that dinging in my ear. They claim he pulled the wires in the motor out when he did that, so not true. I am so frustrated. Did any of your problems get fixed????

Oh, guess I should update this.  Finally the dealership ran a whole new run of wires to the sliding doors because they couldnt figure out which wire was causing the problem.  Since then I have had no problems with that door.  I just wish they had done that in the first place.  However, the dealership I worked with was exceptionally nice and worked well with me. They even gave me a loaner car for the week while they tried to figure it out each time.

I am having problems with my sliding doors, interior lights flickering, and the front end suspension. The dealerships cannot duplicate my problems when I get there and the problems remain. I have opened up an investigation with GM but they said until the problem can be duplicated they cannot help me. This morning I was left out in the cold with a baby because I cold not get the doors to open. I think this is the worst purchase I have ever made.

I had my rotors turned within the first 6000 miles also. I have had the vehicle in several times because it sounds as if the calipers are not releaseing or the brakes grab and make a popping noise. One year later after the rotors were turned i had to replace pads and rotors. The pads were worn down to bare metal. They began to grind without any warning. I had to pay out of pocket for this repar because they said the brakes were a wear item. I think this vehicle has issues with the brakes.

Does anyone know how to disable the power sliding door to make it a manual operation?

I am courious to know more about the braking problems people are having with the uplander. On a recent trip my brakes practically failed me. While traveling down a winding hill my brakes made a terrible grinding sound and didn't feel like they were grabbing at all. Then the van over heated. As we continued to travel the problem got worse and I was alerted by a passing motorist there was smoke coming from under the van. The brakes were very hot. I had a mechanic look at the van when I finally arrived and he couldn't see anything wrong, but on the way home the same thing happened. The brakes just feel like they are failing or not grabbing accurately. I have taken the car everywhere from Midas to a dealership to a private mechanic and all I am hearing is that the brakes can get hot and I should be more careful while driving. I am honestly scared to drive the thing with my kids in it. Because I am not auto inclined does anyone have any suggestions that may help???
I am convinced my uplander is a lemon!!! Thanks

shift your vehicle down to 3rd or 2nd gear going down steep winding hills, your are overheating your brakes and the ABS is kicking in as the hotter they get the less they will grab, the VAN thinks it is losing traction, and engageing hte ABS, prolly warping the rotors in the process....the mechanics are most likely correct.

EDIT----if you saw smoke I would take it in and have the rotors checked they are most likely warped, does your vehicle shake when the brakes are applied now, and the pads are prolly severly worn as well.

I had a 2005 Uplander with 50K+ miles. Every time it rained or was washed, the passenger power sliding door would not close using the remote or the push-button on the inside. Since the warranty had expired, I just ended up taking the fuse out and closing the door manually.
The brakes also became an issue. With only 50K miles, they started feeling mushy. I changed the brake pads in my garage for $20 and it only took an hour. That seemed to fix the prob. I have read online that the Uplanders are starting to have all kinds of electrical issues. I got rid of ours and bought my wife an '07 Tahoe instead.

I'm doing research for a TV story on problems with Uplander sliding doors. I'm looking for anyone in the Pittsburgh area or surrounding counties that may have had a problem with the door opening by itself.

If you have had a problem like this please contact me.

I have a 2005 Chevy Uplander and over the course of the last several months, the passenger rear sliding door started randomly closing on me and not retracting when it came in contact with my body.  Long story short, now the cable won't retract at all and is crimped in the door.  Because I have 57K miles on the car (we did 20K per yr. lease b/c I was still working at the time), it is not covered by any warranty.  However, it's a safety issue - what if one of my kids had been trying to get out of the car??.  I called GM Customer Service and surprisingly, they were of assistance and said that once the diagnosis is complete, they will assess whether or not they assist with the repair cost.  So after having it diagnosed, the cable has wrapped itself around the door motor mechanism and it will cost $1400 to fix it.  The GM rep is now contacting the area service manager for my area to see what they can do to help with the cost.  I am going to contact an executive Customer Service leader to try and get the ball rolling more.  Any other advice?  I hate this car.  It's had so many other issues, but after hearing - we don't know what to do over and over, you just deal with the issues.  How sad is that?

I have a 2007 uplander after driving everything this is what the wife decided on..  I think that this van was a mistake..  This is the second time we have had the van in for Major Service I have had our van in for the sliding power doors and for the engine not Turing over when we try to start the van. The first time the dealership stated we checked the doors and they are ok we adjusted them. Then they told me that they could not repeat the starting problem so they were unable to look at that. Not even one day later, I mean that night the van would not turn over I tried and on the 3rd time it finally turned over.  Than the doors would not close.
Now I have it in for these problems as well as the breaks,  while coming back from a trip we were coming down  a mountain I got up to 70 when I started to break I thought that the steering wheel was going to rip out of my hands.  They have had my van for 2 full days and all they can say is they can’t figure out what is going on with the doors.  Where I live we don’t have a lemon law what do you think I should do?

I bought a 2005 Chevy Uplander thinking this is the car I would keep until my kids were grown..... I guess not. Now, 2 years later, I am fed up with the service I get at the Chevy Dealership and, I am fed up with the problems with this lemon....
It really irritates me that I paid so much for this piece of *&^%!, and 2 years later, I am ready to take a loss & trade it in for anything that is not made by GM.
I have had problems with the power sliding door since I bought the vechile, I have taken it in 3 times for the door alone, and the first time, they told me it was the sensor & they would fix it, the second time, they charged me $20.00 to wipe down the sensors... a week later, the door wouldn't open, agian....
This time, they told me it was a piece of molding, and it was causing the door not to close properly. They charged me $80.00 to remove a piece of molding. They did not replace it, they just took it off & say it is not needed.... Then why was it there??
I have had problems with the brakes as soon as the van hit 7,000 miles. They have been turned, they have been replaced, and I am sure 2 - 3,000 miles from now they will be shaking again...
The Sway Bar Links have had to be fixed twice,
And every time I fill the gas tank, if I fill it all the way, the check engine light comes on & says there is no gas in the car, as soon as it gets to about 3/4 of a tank the light goes off & the gas gage works again.
I purchased the extra warranty when I bought the vechile, because I figured I would have this van for at least 10 years, and wanted to be covered. Even with the extended warranty, I end up paying around $500 every time I take this thing in to the dealer, and they always tell me, "It's a maintenance issue" I don't understand how faulty brakes are a "maintenance issue" The door is a "maintenance issue", etc etc. I've had nothing but problems with the brakes since I bought the thing. And the same for the door.... A vechile shouldn't made you stressed when a kid accidently uses the power sliding door to get in or out of the car & then you are sitting in the grocery parking lot trying to get the thing to stop beeping for 45 minutes before doing your errands... Just what you need when you are running around doing errands with 3 kids. Or your husband accidently goes over the 3/4 mark when he fills up the car, so now the car is saying there is no gas & beeping at you, you get mad at him....
This wasn't a cheap purchase, My car payments doubled when I bought this thing, we justified it by saying this would be the car I would have for 10 years, I'd be better off with a bike with a baby trailer attached. I've had enough. Now our options are, keep the thing & keep taking it in for these problems, or trade it in, lose even more money, and get something else. I hope they realize what a valuable customer they lost, My entire family, Mother, Brothers & they're wives, Sister, have bought Chevy's for years. Now, we are all switching to non-chevy vechiles because of the problems everyone is having. My Sister had a venture, at 40k, the heads went. My Mom had a venture, she had a problem where it would just not start sometimes, she took it in 5 times for the same problem, finally, she traded it in for a non-Chevy vechile. Due to all these problems, and my experience with the Service Department, I will never buy a Chevy or GM again.

Dont think switching brands will solve your problems......they all have issues

"Toyota Motor Co. said Tuesday it would cover the costs of repairing doors on up to 600,000 Sienna minivans, after learning from consumers that a part can fail, causing doors to shut unexpectedly."
