Hi,
I'm new here, i have a 1979 chevy impala that i'm restoring now.
I was woring on the engine, and removing unnecessary wiers and electrical parts,
whwn i stumbled those things:
1: An unknown canister, that isn't connected to any thing.
2: This box with connectors inside, that are numberd from 1 to 8. It looks original.
3: Something that looks like a relay, that looks like it have been installed here in israel.
Can some body please tell me what those are?
Thank you,
Dima.

i know the canister in the first pic is part of the polution stuff and it wont hurt anything by no being hooked up. its suposed to filter gasses coming from the motor and tranny. pic 2. i would leave that there if its atached to somthing at the other end same as #3 (the pic wont display) but if there not in your way i would leave them alone. hope that helps.

I have fixed the third link to the pic, now its o.k.
Any way, the third part seems to be an unoriginal part, that has been installed to replace something, i guess...
This canister suposed to be connected to the engine breather? because the breather is connected to the air filter hosing, and the oil waipors from the engine are destroing the air filter after 500 kilometers.
Do you know what can lead to the disconecction of this canister?

i know that all the lines coming from and going to that canister are vent pipes. they come from the carb and the gas tank. they are there to take away the feul vapers. dont worry to much if they are not hooked up. it dosent have anything to do with the air fillter on top of the motor though. i think you are talking about the pcv. valve tube. is it the small tube that goes from the breather to the valve cover? if so then we can go from there. just post again if u ned more help.

yeah, i'm talking about the tube that comes up from the valve cover breather to the air filter. i don't know why, but after something like 300 miles my air filter is soaked with oil.

i hate to be the one to bring u the bad news but it sounds like your motor is on the way out. does it burn alot of oil?

why do you have to be so cruel?!

it runs O.k. and almost dosen't burn any oil.
the oil on the air filter is from the valve cover breather.
maybe there is have to be another element between the two of them to abserve the oil vaipors?

where the tube goes into the breather what does it go into? is it going into a small plasic thing that is cliped to the breather. but now that im thinking of it u could just take that tube out of the breather alltogether and turn it so it points away from the motor like twards the fender.

ok so i dont know what you would have there for a parts store like we have canadian tire but you can buy that plastic peace and it come with a small foam filter in it. there is a metal clip holding that thing to the breather. just unclip it and replace it with the new one. how many miles does the car have on it anyway? just wundering.

the plastic part comes with a foam filter? i don't have it, and thats probably why my air filter is gettin soaked with oil.
my car has on it 186K km, or 286k km. The meter shows only 5 digits, so i don't know if its a second or a third roll.
