twin cam engine?

I'm looking at a 2000 Cavalier right now. My dad looked at it and said I shouldn't get it because it's got a twin cam engine, only because my sister had a car that had the same type that gave her so many problems and eventually failed. Is there really something wrong with this engine, or did my dad write it off too quickly? It has about 74500 miles on it already, and I take good care of my things (so I'd give it regular oil changes and maintainence checks). Any other opinions out there would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

Cavaliers are just JUNK in general! Anyway,I'm assuming this engine is GM's wonderful 2.4 DOHC and if it is STAY AWAY!!! I can guarantee a buch of people will jump on here and tell how wonderful and how great the 2.4 DOHC engie is but it's load of S>>>!!! I've worked on so many of these engines and they are JUNK!!! I can GUARANTEE if you buy this car and it has the 2.4 DOHC you will regret it. VERY poorly designed engine and VERY expensive to fix. I know I'm going over the top here but if I can save one person from WASTING their hard earned money on one of these POS 2.4 engines It's all woth it!!

If your heart is set on buying GM product go for anything with a 3.8V6 or 3800V6. If it's a 4 cylinder you want don't get one from GM.

I've just looked up the vin on carfax, and the engine is 2.4L L4 MFI (Could someone first please explain that to me? 2.4 Liters I understand) I can't afford to buy the history on the car ($25?!) but it told me that much.

M-multi port F- fuel I - injection , this is just the type of Fuel injection used. The L4 just means it's a 4 cyclinder.

As far as cavalier's are concerned, IMO, the best ones to get are going to be a '90-'94 Z24 with the 3.1L V6. I had a '93 and put well over 150,000 miles on it and it ran as strong on the day I traded it in as the day I bought it. It is fun as hell to drive and if you can find one in good shape with decent miles on it , a VERY reliable car. Once GM changed the body style to the pre-Cobalt body style all reliability left. I have heard a lot of people complain about the '95+ version of the car. I think that is why they changed it from the Cavalier to the Cobalt. Trying to get away from the "problems" that were going on. Hopefully they do and they get back to the reliability that the '90 - '94 had. Just my 2 cents but I hope this helps.

As you can tell am not a big fan of cavaliers but I would have to agree with Madic2891. The earlier cavaliers where far better and not to mention better looking.
