I have a 89 1500 Silverado Z71 I am wondering how hard it would be to convert it to an automatic? What all would have to be replaced? New steering Column?

You could use that same steering column, you would just need to put in a floor mount shifter. Other than that flywheel, cause of clutch plate surface, and driveshafts. They will most likely be shorter on back and longer on front. You will need a tranny cooler, if your radiator dosen't have a spot for the lines you will need a good sized aftermarket one or a new radiator for an auto. As long as you get a troque converter with the tranny that should be it. I May be missing something though. You may need a new crossmember. Good luck.
