I recently purchased a new cluster for my '03 Suburban 1500 (4WD) and installed it today. I upgraded from stock to include the trans temp guage, which I din't have before. I noticed that it didn't appear to move at all after the install and was wondering a couple of things. Supposedly the vehicle is pre-wired and it should basically be plug-and-play is what I was told. So it it true that my vehicle should already have the temp sender? Also, I only drove it about 5 miles, but shifting through all the gears, I figured the guage shoud at least move a little bit.
Anyway, just looking for some input.

That's what I'm hoping, It's my wife's vehicle so I'll have her keep an eye on it. Hopefully it'll start moving. I hear that anything under 200 degrees while not towing is acceptable. It was in the low to mid-50s and extremely windy yesterday.

The 2003 1500 series GMT800 products are not pre-wired for a transmission temperature gauge only the 2500 and 3500 series products are and in their case the gauge is standard.

Hmmmm, When you say 'not prewired' are you saying the wiring and the sensor are NOT installed - or that it just doesn't have a sensor, but the wiring is there for it?

There is no wire to transmit trans temp info to the cluster although there is a temp sensor inplace.
If your transmission runs too hot you will get a message on the DIC display.

Hmm, I was unaware that the DIC would display an overtemp tranmission - interesting. So what I gather is that there is a sensor, it's just not feeding a signal to the guage because there is no wire in place to do so. I guess (?) I would be able to run one myself, have you ever investigated that?

Not that simple, the trans temp info is relayed to the cluster via the Class-2 Serial Data system.

Well, I guess I got lucky. My wife finally drove it yesterday (she's been sick for a few days) and it works!!
