I had the dealer rotate (only because it is half price during annual inspection) and I was wondering if it was automatic for them to do a relearn of sensor location or should I do it. forgot to ask..

The dealer will almost never relearn the tire possitions after a rotation and the front will now be the rear and vice versa.
Follow these steps to get the system back up and operating perfectly.
The TPMS sensor matching process is outlined below:
Set the parking brake.
Turn the ignition switch to RUN with the engine off.
Using the DIC, press the vehicle information button until the RELEARN TIRE POSITIONS message displays. If your vehicle does not have the DIC buttons, press the trip odometer reset stem located on the instrument panel cluster until the RELEARN TIRE POSITIONS message displays.
If your vehicle has the DIC buttons, press the set/reset button. The horn will sound twice to indicate the TPMS receiver is ready, and the TIRE LEARNING ACTIVE message will display. If your vehicle does not have the DIC buttons, press and hold the trip odometer reset stem until the horn chirps twice and the TIRE LEARNING ACTIVE message is displayed.
Start with the driver's side front tire.
Remove the valve cap from the valve cap stem. Activate the TPMS sensor by increasing or decreasing the tire's air pressure for five seconds, or until a horn chirp sounds. The horn chirp, which make take up to 30 seconds to sound, confirms that the sensor identification code has been matched to this tire and wheel position. To decrease air-pressure out of a tire you can use the pointed end of the valve cap, a pencil-style air pressure gage, or a key.
Proceed to the passenger's side front tire, and repeat the procedure in Step 6.
Proceed to the passenger's side rear tire, and repeat the procedure in Step 6.
Proceed to the driver's side rear tire, and repeat the procedure in Step 6.
After hearing the confirming horn chirp for the driver's side rear tire, the horn chirp will sound two more times to signal the tire learning mode is no longer active. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK.
Set all four tires to the recommended air pressure level as indicated on the Tire and Loading Information label.
Put the valve caps back on the valve stems

That's what I was afraid of. I was that there was a long process to re-learn that was why I asked. I was hoping to avoid it.
Thanks for the info...saves me a search through TFM.

It may seem complicated, but it isn't it is actually easy.

I bought a '05 Tahoe used. It still had the factory wheels and tires but the pressure monitor sensors were missing. Go figure???

Thanks for the info... but I think i'm going to take my chances without resetting them. As long as the pressure in all the tires is correct... no big deal.

If you take a sensor off the front left wheel. Put the same sensor in a different wheel and put it on the same location will the computer still recognize the sensor?

Also, what if I buy an aftermarket set of tires and wheels and do not buy sensors for them? I will use the stock wheels and tires in the summer but want some agressive tires for winter trips in the mountains. Will it give me endless alarms?

BT, according to another post on the subject there is no way to disable the system. You may have to get another set of sensors for the new rims to keep the vehicle from indicating an error.

To relearn the sensor locations, the dealership can use the up/down pressure method or more readily do it with a SPX/Kent-More J-46079 TPMS reset tool uploaded with the latest K-M software v.3.3.
More details than you can ever have wanted can be found by searching this Forum for J-46079...

I don't need a dealer to reprogram. If they don't automatically do it with a rotation then I will just do it myself. I won't even have them do the rotation either unless it corresponds with an inspection. It takes less than 5 minutes.
At least it better... thats how long the truck gives you before it goes out of relearn mode.

Don't worry, the whole process only takes a minute and is very easy. Don't forget to put air back in after your finished.

I was going to remark on how much air I had to let out for the vehicle to learn on some tires.
Be ADVISED you need to be near air when you do this.
I had to let air out for a long time on a few and the resulting pressure was too darn low to have to travel very far. It was 20 degrees so the pressures were a little low anyhow but still... be prepared.
I didn't do the air up method because I was worried it might take too long and the pressure would go too high. Plus I have to pump quarters in to get air so my was was cheaper too.
