have an 03 2500hd with 6.0L temp guage reading 210 when truck is ice cold. two days ago guage read about 245 while going down the road pulled over check hoses upper was warm lower not so warm had driven 6 miles. thought thermostat was stuck so called wrecker. work at a parts store so yesterday pick up thermostat and today put it in. temp guage still reading 210 after two days sitting. ran truck down the road 8miles temp reads 230. put a temp probe on the cyclinder heads they read 160,water pump reads 160,upper hoses warm to touch lower hose cold any suggestions

Well the easiest place to start would probably be the temp sending unit and work your way to the gauge, since you have already established that it is not a bad thermostat. Just a suggestion.

sending unit is wired into the pcm on these trucks no dtc when you start the truck all guages reset but the temp

Most likely a bad gauge stepper motor, very common on this year instrument cluster.
Have your dealer reference GM Document ID # 2037454 which will cover the gauges under warranty for an extended period (7 years or 70,000 miles).

that what i'm thinking it is. today the guage was working like normal. as far as warranty goes 89000 miles on the truck so this is going to hurt.
