That's a slick setup! He forgot to blank his tag on the last pic tho.
Why don't you need a port? Seems like you'd be pumping a lot of pressure in the box when the cone(s) go in. But like I said I don't know much about this. The hi-density MDF question was serious. It's a lot, lot denser and heavier and probably would want it to subdue any sympathetic vibrations from the speakers. Speaking of which, it seems like that one with the glass/plastic? would have that problem unless it was very thick.
Congrats on your promotion.

Shark,
As for the MDF, I have always been told it was the best to use. Basically the strongest I guess, not sure exactly why. But yes, MDF is the product to use.
As for the port, some subs say it is better, some dont recommend it. For my setup I would not go with a port. A ported box can be louder. However, a non ported enclosure produces more accurate, tight bass. It is preference, along with the sub setup. If we can get the right air space for the sub I end up going with we wont need the port. I can also just choose a sub that fits the air space we end up with in the finished product.
Shark, if jeff doesnt want the grille you can have your shot. I have pics all over the forum. It is the thicker, shinier PHAT billet grille. I am going to get a different bumper thefore need a different grille so it matches! Grille is a precision design PHAT billet Grille.

Re: grill I didn't realize that you were getting rid of that one already. Not interested. Let Jeff have it.
Re: MDF We have a failure to communicate here. I agree that MDF is the proper mat'l to use. I was just stating the probably should go with the hi-density variety. There are other densities available that are lighter but more flimsy and don't support weight over time as is obvious if you've ever made any shelves from the lite weight stuff.

Got ya! Jeff already sent payment. Grille is sold!
As for the MDF, I got ya. I didnt know there were different types of MDF, it has been almost 10 years since I have bought any. But high density does ring a bell. So that would be the right MDF to use! WE can talk more on this if the time comes!

Makes me wonder what they call the hi-density stuff. HDF???
I gotta go watch a DIY or HGTV show after all this lumber talk. JK.

Street Scene gone! Phat billet ordered yesterday, and put on this morning. Rear OEM bowtie arrived from GMparts, painted last night and left the chrome bowtie outline. Mud flaps removed and sold for lowering kit installation to be completed soon. What do you guys think?
How my Tahoe looks today!
Mud Flaps on, and removed!
Rear OEM Bowtie painted gold part white, and left chrome border!
New Phat Billet Grille installed!
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF FLAPS GONE, EMBLEM PAINTED WHITE WITH CHROME BORDER LEFT ON, AND SPLASH GUARDS REMOVED.

Looks real good big, even though the mudflaps don't look all that bad on. It still looks a little bit better with them off though.

for those of you with the precision phat billet grille, how hard was the install?
did you have to remove the standard grille?
anyone got the time to take pics of the mounting hardware?
Thanks

Ironcy,
I have had 4 different aftermarket grilles, and 2 of them were a the Phat Billet Grille. Those pictures dont do it justice, and I am sure Jeff will tell you the same thing!
Anyways, as for installation you can do it as an overaly, or you can cut the factory honey comb out. Jeff has it in his as an overlay, I installed mine as a cutout. I probably would do it as a cutout if I did it again just so I still had the factory honey comb there! I dont have pictures of the hardware. If you do the cutout, it can be a pain in the ass to cut the honey comb. But I think it looks a little better. IF you do it as an overaly it will be easier, HENCE no cutting. Either way the actual install hardware is very simple and easy to use. It comes with instructions and you shouldnt have a problem. I have some info on the site abot how to remove the entire factory grille! Good luck and I can tell you the Phat Billet is the best looking bar grille I have found yet, Pictures dont show hot good and thick it really is.

Ironcy,
like Biglg said, the install is really easy as an overlay and b/c the grille bars are so thick you can't even see the honeycomb unless you get inches away from it. The install took about 20 minutes and when I paint my bowtie on Saturday I will take some pics of the hardware if its possible. The space you have to work with is fairly small so I'm not sure good the pics will be. We shall see. BTW-I love the Phat billet and I have got nothing but compliments on it since its been on. I also think its the best looking grille around.

thanks for the prompt replies. Jeff, if you can take pics, I would be interested in seeing them.
how does the grille mount to the tahoe? This is what I am really trying to understand, especially if the original grille is still in place...
I want to avoid removing the factory grille to put this on in place.
Thanks

The billet grille fits ontop of the honeycomb hence the name (overlay) and it bolts onto the backside of the honeycomb which "locks" it into place. Its kinda hard to explain in writing but once you have all the materials in front of you it is very easy to understand. If I can get some good pics Sat. I will post them soon after.
