s10 2.2 lifter advice needed ??

my mate cooked his head on a 2.2 s10 (1996), ive fitted a new head and it runs fine except for one of the hydrolic lifters isnt opening on no1 cylinder, is there any way of removing or freeing it up without pulling the head off again ??  cheers keeny  .england .uk
