On my 2005 Impala, I noticed that there is a spotty coating of what appears to be rust on the workings under the driver's seat. Is this a common occurance? Seems the car is a bit new for that and common sense says that an interior part shouldn't have the rust I'm seeing. Any thoughts? It's a power seat and everything on it works just fine

I've found this to be common and It is from the moisture you drag into your car from your wet shoes, carpet shampooing, snow, road salt, ect. The moisture is held in the carpet and when it evaporates, bada-bing rusty seat rails. It only takes a small pin hole size rust spot and it just grows from there. I wouldn't really sweat the situation just keep the mechanicals of the seat rail greased and you should be good to go but if you don't keep them greased they may over many years rust in place and will be a bear to get moving again. This is not gospel but what I have seen and learned from personal experience.

I was kind of figuring that. Thanks for the confirmation. I really wanted to know if anyone else had witnessed this as a problem. I will likely get things cleaned up and greased once the weather gets nice. Not that the seat will be going anywhere now that it's adjusted for me.
