Pretty crazy prices on Ethanol. When I checked the Monday after Thanksgiving it was $3.29. I put gas (Ethanol) yesterday (12.28.06) and this time it was $3.46 a gallon. I hope these prices go down soon to get people to start switching over.

Where you buying gas? It's 30 cents cheaper than regular fuel by me.

Holy crap.  $3.29.  Regular is $2.29 here.  It's supposed to be cheaper not MORE.  with the slightly lower efficiency it is not reasonable to pay more.  Green friendly or not, that price won't cut it.

That was in San Diego. I should have put regular gas, but I wanted to try out the E85. $68 for right under 20 gallons.

So I fueled up on Sat (02.17.07) and the E85 was $3.56. $3.49 if you pay cash.

Thats a rip.  What is reg gas going for where you live?  It's $2.15 here.

That translates to about a 38% premium you are paying for ethanol over gasoline.  I all for lessening impact on the environment, but thats just too steep of a price difference.

I guess that's what they mean when people talk about going "$Green$"

Here in Vegas its about 10 cents cheaper then regular fuel, but I noticed when I used it I went from 325 miles per tank down to 200, so a few cents savings for 125 less miles is not worth it.  I do not see how people can pay more the regular fuel and get worse mileage.

Don't forget that the gov't is providing a subsidy for ethanol. (not sure how much)  Also they won't allow import of foreign ethanol eg, Brazil's.

yup. Paying a whole lot more for it with less MPG, doesn't help trying to get drivers to use this alternative fuel. What sucks is that Pearson can charge whatever they want since they're the only one that offers E85 in SoCal.

Why buy it? The whole reason for it is to save money on fuel and help the environment. Sounds like price gouging is in order. I would contact your local TV and let them do a story on it.

I bought some E85 for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and spent 1.75 for it..reg gas was 2.05.  I got the same gas mileage in town with it.  So I was happy, however I got worse gas mileage on the highway with E85...

The whole thing with E85 is that that all teh companys (Ford, GMC...etc) were being hammered about the environment. They are thinking of putting a surcharge in California on bigger emission vehicles and giving cleaner burning cars a cut.
The whole E85 thing burns better but it costs us a whole lot more. not worth it if you ask me. Everyone that has a Tahoe would have to use E85 for about 27 years in oreder to even see the beginning of a change in the eco system.

I'll be cruising through San Diego this weekend. So I'll post the latest price from Pearson Ford.

Don't get me started on the E85 issue!!! Bush goes on TV the other night telling the world about how many E85 capable vehicles will be on the road by 2008 (I think that was the year). So what when you can't even buy E85? I live in Phoenix, AZ with a population of almost 4 million people and no E85 available anywhere unless you drive a state owned or police dept vehicle?? What is up with that? And all along E85 was "supposed" to be about a dollar cheaper per gallon than regular unleaded? Just another gov't fiasco!

The only way E85 will be cheaper than gas (unless oil prices go thru the roof  ) is with gov't subsidies which it already has plus a tariff on import ethanol.  Now third world countries are complaining that the price of corn is too high because we are starting to burn it up in our vehicles.

Another good example of why gov't should just stay out of our hair and worry about defending the country.

Finally a little cheaper. It was $3.11 over the Easter weekend. But that was the cash price. I paid by credit card so it was $3.18. Regular gas was also $3.11 (cash)

Colorado's new governor is really making a push for these Ethanol stations.  He just helped open another one here in Northern Colorado.  Now I have two stations within a 15 mile radius of my house.  Not too bad.  I think it's a great idea, but more importantly it gives back to OUR economy (the USA) and not some middle east country who obviously doesn't need anymore money.  Have you seen Dubai in the United Arab Emirates lately?  Unbelievable what all the oil dollars are building for them!!!

If the greens would let us drill for oil, build nuke plants, and put up windmills, we could keep the money here.

There are many "for" and "against's" for the use of ethanol.  I understand you say it gives back to the economy.  However, what happens when the corn price gets so high that all farmers who use corn for feed can no longer afford it?  I am in Missouri, we are probably one of the biggest Ethanol states.  It is having a drastic effect on the beef farmers.  Most farmers are already stating they cant afford the price increase in corn.  On the other hand, the crop growers are loving it.
