I have an 06 chevy silverado with the 5.3 with 15K miles on it. I bought it new and it uses about a half a quart to 3000 miles. Do any of your engines use a small amount of oil?

Truck is still very young. Some would argue it is still being broken in. Moniter the oil useage. Use a TOP quality filter and oil. If it starts to use more than 1/2 a quart in 3,000 something is F'd. Hope this helps.

My 2003 Suburban with the 5.3 uses between 1/2 and a full quart every oil change. My diesel on the other hand...

for those who replied that they use a little oil. Has it used it from it was new? Has it remained fairly constant over the period of time you have had it?
Thanks guys for the info.

It has always used the oil... especially when driven pretty hard. Seems to use around 1/2 quart every time. May be more or less... i don't really worry unless i'm missing a quart or two.

Every car I have ever had uses a little. I have heard that every engine made uses a little. This is partly because of unburnt fuel getting into your oil then the oil gets more flammible. I say dont worry and keep some oil on hand.
