I've got a budget of around $5000 and am looking for  a used  5.7  1500  4x4 sub.  I will obviously consider mileage and maintenance but are there any years or model issues that are more trouble-free/prone?  Any advice would be appreciated.  thanks in advance.  wep

I had a 97 that had it A/C go out and I was told that it would be $1500.00 to replace bad hoses.  I was told it was an
issue on that model year. Just my 2 cents.

I just looked up the suburbans in my consumer reports.  It only goes back to 1997.  According to them 97 is the best bet comparing to 97-99.  The mains complaints were engine cooling system, tranny, climate control system.

Overview: GM's largest SUV, the Suburban emphasizes "utility." It seats up to nine people, and hauls massive cargo loads. Available in 2WD and 4WD, the Suburban shares its basic platform and V8 powertrain lineup with GM's pickups. In pre-2000 models power was strong, but the brakes were awful. Later models ride better and handle commendably. The brakes are improved somewhat. Power is provided by a powerful-but-thirsty 5.3-liter V8. Stability control was offered beginning in 2003 and made standard by 2005.Safety equipment: Dual front air bags standard. Side air bags standard from 2000 to 2002, available thereafter. ABS standard.Note: This model may have a recall associated with it. More information Reliability history Trouble Spots Chevrolet Suburban 1500

Sorry my cut and paste did not line up correctly.  Just know that each string of symbols starts with the 97 model year.

Well i am a fan of the 96. I have driven one for a long time now and wouldn't trade it for anything. I haven't had problems. But the only problem is me. I have beat the crap out of it for a long time and it is still going strong. I did replace the origanal motor but that is becasue i am a power freak and i cant get enough. You would have to do that the origanal motor had enough power but i wanted more. I would at least give it consideration.
