I recently bought a 2002 Silverado 2500, I am getting about 11.5mpg, my question to guys with a 2500 is: Is this normal mileage? I am not expecting 20mpg or anything crazy but just looking for some input.

I have had an 02 1500HD 6.0 (3.73 gears) for just over a year now and have gotten about 11.5 the whole time. I'd say you aren't bad off.

I have a '00 2500 with a 6.0 and a 6" lift with 35" tires and get ~10MPG.  I can get 12MPG if it's straight highway miles.

You got any pics of your truck? I really want 33s or 35s.

I'll have to see if I have any on my home computer tonight.  I had A/T BFG's on the truck, but just bought the new Toyo Open Country M/T's and they look awesome.  I have heard nothing but good things about this tire.

Post your pics as soon as you can too, My start was with a K&N intake and tuner. Got them at AutoAnything and at Truck Addons

Has anybody had success improving their MPG with things like the Hypertech Econ or even a Tonneau Cover?  This $4.50/gallon is killing me!

MPG Improvement

Run tire pressure 3-4 psi over std.

Change all drive line systems to synthetic oils

Add K&N air filter or one similar for better air flow

Give it a complete tune up using all AC Delco parts

Add 1 can of seafoam fuel cleaner to tank on the next two fillups.

Drive it like your sainted grandmother would drive it, slow starts, no run and gun.

For every 5 mph over 55 mph you start losing about 1 mpg.

It takes fuel to move heavy iron, it takes even more fuel to move heavy iron fast.

Good luck and stay safe,

I am seeing more seat time on my motorcycle.

What about that water/hydrogen conversion kit that you can build yourself and add to your system?  It might be a hoax but I understand that you can build it yourself from common materials and increase your mileage by 40-60%.  If it's true, I'd like to try it just for the science of it.

My 04 Silverado 2500 Crew Cab Longbed 4x4(6.0L,410 gears) was getting @11mpg at time of purchase. I added a fiberglass camper cap (with good aerodynamics, apparently) and my mileage immediatey went to 14mpg. The cap (1400$) paid for itself in about 2 years.
