I have a 1990 GM pick-up with a 5.7 liter 350 engine. Just recently I tried to start it and it would not start. I thought maybe it was the cap, rotor, plugs or wires. I checked them all and everything seems to working. The engine is also getting gas based on the smell at the throttle body and visually seeing it coming out of the injectors. Does anyone have any idea why the engine will not start? I am not sure whether its a computer module thing or the timing belt/chain?

Sounds like a timing issue to me.

I have both spark and fuel. I double checked the wires and plugs and definitley get spark action. I also see fuel spraying into the throttle body from the injectors.

How did you check for spark? Did you have spark at several plugs or just off the coil wire?

I've seen injector spray patterns that looked good, but the pressure was half of what it should have been. If you pour a little gas down the throttle-body does it help?

Are there any codes? I've seen faulty sensor signals cause a no start.

I checked the wires first by taking a screw drive and inserting into the wire end and keeping it close to a ground. When cranking the engine you can see if your getting any power through the wire all the way back to the distributor/rotor/coil and cap. After seeing that I got power through there I then took out a spark plug and connected the wire to it and started to crank the engine. Again I was able to see spark from the spark plug.

As for codes I haven't checked. I do get the service engine soon light but it doesn't flash. I need to get a code breaker thing or whatever its called in order to see if there is an issue. What type of sensors would not allow the engine to start?

I would check compression that is the last thing you need to start.
