Electronic Brake Control Module

I've got a 2000 Malibu LS, and this morning, the ABS light came on. Car sat in the garage overnight, then when it was started, the ABS light stayed on.

Trying to figure out what might be the cause, I consulted my Hayne's manual. It states, "The Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) is located behind the inner splash shield of the left front wheel (see illustration). The photo doesn't show anything I recognize when I'm looking into the engine compartment, so it really doesn't help me figure out where the module is.

Because its supposed to be "...behind the inner splash shield of the left front wheel...", I wasted time and effort removing the plastic inner fenders, trying to locate it.

Can anybody give me a better idea of where its located, and how to get to it.

Thank you.

on my malibu the abs light came on when my hubs went bad. after I repaced the hub assembly the light went away. check your brakes also. I'm no pro but I hope that can help.

Not sure why you want to get to the module ?? Are you thinking of replacing it because the ABS light is on ??

As been stated in this forum before , the most common ABS problems for the Malibu are the front hubs or the ABS wiring connectors to the front hubs. You can have some place retrieve the fault code for the ABS and go from there.

The ECBM is mounted to the BPMV (brake pressure modulator valve) located at the left front (lower) engine compartment.

But as golfer says, your problem is probably a break in the wire to a front wheel speed sensor, or the hub itself.
Get it checked for codes.

I wanted to know where the EBCM is so I could look at it and ensure the connections are still good.
