Hi everyone, I'm new here and hope I can gain something from your experience and knowledge.

I have a 1998 Cavalier Coup 5-speed, 93K miles, routine maintenaince performed. Overall a great little car, but it's started to show its age a bit.

About a month ago I notived a rotation/clicking sound when I brake below 20 mph. It only happens when I brake; if I just coast down to 20mph or lower, there is no noise. Also, this happens when driving straight as well as turning. When the clicking sound happens it almost feels like something is scraping; I can feel the pulse/scrapes through the pedal and it is quite loud/noticeable.

I figured it had something to do with the brakes since it only happened when braking, so I took it in to Midas and had an entire new set of front brakes (rotors and all) put on. On the drive home - at the first stop light in fact - the noise persisted.

I wasn't happy with service at Midas, so I didn't take it back but the noise is really starting to unnerve me. Could this be the CV joint or boot? Anything else?

Also, how many more miles can I expect to get out of this car, assuming I can get some repair work done??

Thanks for any tips/advice! Have a great holiday.

My 2003 TrailBlazer just started the same thing. I've checked the brakes and they seem fine, any suggestions?

I am having the same issue at 115k.  Was the CV joint the cause?
